With inspirations ranging from the Scottish Colourists to Picasso and the Bauhaus, William McKinnie has seen his work being sold throughout Britain.
A finalist in the “Not the Turner Prize” painting competition in 2003, William has created this website to reach a wider audience.

From his roots in a small Ayrshire town, to settling in Sunderland in the North East of England , William has lead a life dedicated to education, he has taught at Bolton Collage of Art and Design, was Head of Art at Stocksbridge Collage of Further Education , Community Education tutor at Redhouse School. Since retiring as Area Team Community Education Coordinator in Sunderland William has devoted more time to his Art.

At present William is working on a series of paintings “Castles of Northumbria” and various commissions of portraits.

William McKinnie’s arresting Acrylic and Watercolours paintings grab you by the senses and bring you to the energy and the psychology of colour and composition. William’s images reflect the nature of the “seen and unseen elements” adding a “feeling” response to his paintings. William explains, “My work promotes perceptions and feelings rather than literal observations that add to the viewers enjoyment of a moment remembered or experienced”
